And, as Noddy Holder’s famous cry echoes around the village, we are once again to be found a-wassailing and a-carolling and a-kissing and carousing… The Full Twelve Days of Christmas calendar can be found here Xmas Opening Hours 2015… but highlights are Christmas Eve by Candlelight… the Christmas Day Jumper Parade from Noon till 2.30 p.m. … the communal dog walk and brunch on Sunday 27th (meet at the pub at eleven) and the Easy Quiz for Sherry Addled Brains on Tuesday 29th. P.S. If you are planning to come to the pub with a large group of people, please give us a call and book. It really does help.
P.P.S. update 27 December…. we have had to cancel the communal dog walk due to too much water on the fields… we don’t want to tear up all the footpaths…
It’s that time again folks… what could be better than coming down to the pub on a November Sunday afternoon, having a slap up lunch then sinking some jars whilst playing a few hands of cards and raising a lot of money for Cancer Research?!? And you could win £100 in cash. Last year, we raised over £1,100 for Macmillan Nurses and we would really like to better that this year. So, please, please support us by signing up to play or donating a prize to the raffle, or just giving a donation. But we would really like to see your smiling face…

Ray Jay was an Otley Legend. The oldest paper boy in Suffolk, he had a kind word for everybody and would give you the (unbuttoned) shirt off his back if you needed it. We miss him loads and are donating the proceeds from this month’s Charity Quiz to his family’s choice of Cancer Research UK.
There is no limit on numbers in the teams (though be aware, more does not always mean better), entry is £2 per person and you can buy yourselves a Joker to help your scores. We will also have a bottle raffle so dig deep people. A small menu is available from 6.00 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. (pre-quiz supper oct 15) and we have a special RayJay dish on a sharing platters menu from which you can pre-order for either before the quiz or during the interval. sharing platters RAY JAY.
The quiz starts prompt at 8.00 p.m. and we know it’s going to be really popular – and we can only fit in ten teams – so book your place asap on 01473 890312. Cheers!
We are pleased to say that the White Hart Lending Library is now catalogued and sorted and open for business during pub hours. Offering a wide selection of fiction and a smaller, but interesting, array of non-fiction, it is a nice space to while a way an hour or two choosing some new reading matter. Or do a quick dash in and out… we don’t mind and there is no obligation to buy anything from the bar. Books are free, there is no membership necessary, and there is also a computer available for those of you who would like to access the internet. If you do fancy a spot of lunch, and as an enticement to come down and look, we are offering a bowl of home-made soup, bread and a cup of tea or coffee for a fiver. Just download the voucher here and bring it with you. libraryvoucher
Happy reading folks.
The summer has passed by in a flash and we are hurtling towards the last Bank Holiday before Christmas… Saturday 29th August sees another of our Charity Quiz nights. This time it is in aid of “Caring for Me” – a local charity that offers free complimentary therapy sessions to people undergoing cancer treatment at Ipswich Hospital. We are already pretty packed, so let us know as soon as possible if you are coming. There is no restriction on team sizes – small is often as effective as numerous – and the entry fee is £2 per person. The Winners have a chance to win Big Prize Money and there will be a raffle to extort even more money out of you! If you want food, you have the chance to pre-order some sharing platters – sharing platters caring for me – or there will be a small menu available from 6 till 7.30 p.m.
We are also open for Brunch on Bank Holiday Monday from 12 till 4 p.m. and then staying open for drinks till the last person leaves. We are then closed on Tuesday 1st September, re-opening and continuing life as usual from Wednesday 2nd September.
For more information on ‘Caring for me” contact Corrine Peacock on 07921146751 or follow this link… http://www.acu-life.co.uk/#!caring-for-me-cancer-charity/c9yw
We can’t believe it’s nearly the middle of the year, but hey – we go with the flow. To celebrate the Longest Day we are inaugurating a Solstice Communal Dog Walk – join us with your pooch, kids, grandparents, whoever – to trot around the fields of Otley soaking up the rays of the sun, rather than soaking up anything else, we hope. Meet at the pub at 18.00 hrs; the walk will be about an hour…then back to the Pub for a BBQ and some live Music from The Honeys…
Eschewing The Secret Garden Party, we are delighted The Honeys have chosen to join us to serenade the sun as it sets. They’ll be playing their own brand of Bluegrass and Country, on a multitude of stringed instruments. We got ourselves a Hoe Down…
It’s another long weekend and the weather looks iffy so let us transport you down to the North East coastline of the Mediterranean – the French and Italian Riviera. Lots of typical dishes – and typical wine – will get you in the mood for the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday and take your mind off Eurovision… See here for the menu and give us a call to book a table… rivieranightmay15
We are never really certain what to do on May Bank Holiday – anything weather dependent is dodgy and PRS have made having a live band totally uneconomic. So, we are going to carry on carrying on and doing what we do best… cooking local, seasonal food, serving top quality drinks and letting things go with the flow. Good news is that we have found a wonderful new meat supplier – Peverells of Harlesden – so will be trying out their steaks on Saturday Night… book before midday on Thursday for a free glass of red to go with it. The roasts on Sunday are local lamb or free range chicken and on Monday we are serving a sumptuous brunch. Friday night is, as ever, Pizza Night…
But… if anyone has any bright ideas about dancing round poles or fancies doing a turn… let us know… we are here to please.
It’s nearly time to decorate the Easter Tree again and we thought you might all like to know what your local pub has in store for the long weekend…
Wednesday 1st April – April Fool’s Day! Beer only £2.50 a pint between 5.30 and 7.30 p.m… you’d better believe it…
Maundy Thursday 2nd April – it’s a Thursday but a sort of Friday so we will be making Pizza… there’s the usual Thursday night Texas Hold ‘Em Poker practice session… newbies welcome.
Good Friday 3rd April – Hot Crossed Steaks…. yes, the first White Hart Bank Holiday Steak Night of 2015… we are sourcing a new supplier so hope to have some fabulous new cuts on offer and maybe a bit of Beef Wellington?
Easter Saturday 4th April – The First White Hart Annual Easter Quiz… our Charity this year is Suffolk Age UK, supporting Nellie Sunaway’s bid to run the London Marathon and raise oodles of money for them. Teams of up to six people, £2 entry, you can buy yourself a Joker, and lots of fun prizes… and a raffle. Come early to eat as we are only serving food up to 7.30 p.m…. choose and pre-order a sharing platter for your team from this link… sharing platters
Easter Sunday 5th April – Spring Lamb and the Easter Bunny both feature on our Sunday Lunch menu… food is served between 12.00 and 15.00 then we stoke up the fire (if it’s cold) or catch the last rays of the sun if it’s warm and settle down to some drinking and games – cribbage, Carcassonne, Poker, Snap etc. – till we close around dusk.
Easter Monday 6th April – Easter Egg Hunt! Scattered around the pub are lots of little paper Easter eggs… collect them up and swap for real ones… we’re open from Noon till 19.00 hours, with food from Noon till 15.00…
We like to think that The White Hart is a very happy place – great beer, fab food, decent wines, friendly people, friendlier dogs – but on Friday we are going to make it extra specially happy… tell us your favourite happy music and we’ll play it… share a Pizza with a friend and we will make it bigger free of charge… in fact our whole menu will be geared around sharing dishes and platters and food that just makes you smile… and the bar has some special deals on happy drinks… so grab your friends – or invite the neighbours you don’t really know yet – and come on down… don’t worry, be happy.
