So, once again the Mayday Bank Holiday weekend is nearly upon us… the weather looks iffy and no-one has indicated a wish to start dancing around poles. So here’s what we propose – Friday night is always Pizza Night as it is the best start to any weekend.
On Saturday we will be open all day from Noon, in case the weather is clement enough to tempt you into a walk and a pint in the afternoon… and then on Saturday Night, we are thinking that maybe a little bit of Brazil should come to Otley. The “Rodizio” restaurant consists of an “all you can eat” buffet supplemented by lots of grilled meat and fish brought to you and, sometimes, carved at the table. There will be a “Stop/Go” sign by your plate to indicate when you want a breather. We will be using prime Suffolk produce – and throwing in some unauthentic dishes such as hot grilled crab which would be authentic if the Brazilians had as good a crab as we do – and there will be a salad bar with some extra hot dishes as well… all for £20 a head. We will need a minimum of 10 people to make it worthwhile so book before midday on Thursday 28th and you will be treated to a free Caipirhina, the legendary Brazilian cocktail. Book now on 01473 890312… Bom Apetite!
Yes folks, it’s time for another of our famous Charity Quizzes, this time in aid of the Otley Girls who are Walking the Walk in London on May 14th raising money for Breast Cancer Research. It’s not one for the completely stupid this time (counts me out) but a good mix of easy and challenging questions. There will be a raffle with some pretty damn fine prizes – including half a Helmingham Lamb, delicious with the new season’s mint that’s starting to sprout. For more details and to see what food is available before the quiz and during the interval – sharing platters moonwalk.
Remember to book your team in as soon as possible to avoid being squashed in a corner… See you there!
A huge thank you to all the customers, friends and our lovely staff who made this Easter one of our best ever… we loved it and hope you all did too. Please forgive us for closing somewhat unexpectedly this lunchtime but we have no bookings, and we need to re-group and re-stock! See you all at 5.30 p.m. for Use-Up Tuesday… Salmon and Tarragon Fish Cakes with Béarnaise Sauce & Salad for £6.50… a great tea.
Come and celebrate England win the Six Nations 2016 and – hopefully – complete the Grand Slam… We are “currying them home” with a Chicken Tikka Masala and Rice for only £7.50, although there are lots of other things on the menu too… Kick off at 8.00 p.m. Come early to eat… I want to watch the rugby!!!
N.B. – Non-rugby folk be aware that we only have a few tables away from the hubbub of the game. Please book to avoid disappointment.

So are we! What? Well, apart from the usual serendipitous mix of interesting people, imbibable beer, wonderous wines and fabulous food, here goes…

Happy Holidays Everyone.
Mother’s Day is always special at The Hart… tables groan with lots of yummy food and wine, kids play together having raided the toy box, the fire blazes and a contented hum of enjoyment hovers in the background. We haven’t changed much from last year, added in a few new dishes, but kept the formula the same… you can see the menu here… mothers day 2016.
Book early to avoid disappointment as we rarely turn tables, assuming most people want to linger…. food service from 12.00 noon till 15.00 hrs… then the drinking and revelry carries on until dusk.
And all the lovely ladies, whether mothers or not, will get a little favour from us and Susi’s kitchen…
As the annual love fest rolls around again, we have decided to eschew our usual tacky approach to Valentine’s Day, and turn to the French for inspiration. Our menu is themed around much loved Brasserie dishes, valentines menu 2016 (scroll to the second page for translation) and we would be very happy if you would like to dress up a bit… black tie? Candles, flowers, accordion music and a faint smell of garlic will waft you to Paris without having to brave Calais or Charles de Gaulle. Dinner service starts at 7.00 p.m…. booking essential.
2016 has started more than a little damp and breezy but the welcome at The Hart is as warm and toasty as ever. We have a brand new specials menu (click on this link to have a butchers… january specials 2016) and will be soliciting your opinions as to new Guest Ales and maybe a new Dessert or two. The first 2016 Poker Challenge Tournament is on Thursday 14th January, at 8.00 p.m. but you can hone your skills on any Thursday night. Just come along – new players always welcome. Wednesday Happy Hours continue between 5.30 and 7.30 with the Book Club and Games Club running alongside. Watch this space for details of future events, especially our Valentine’s Day Black Tie Dinner on Saturday 13th February. Not only for young lovers, you know.
If anyone has any special requests for events, specials, or just a great idea for the pub, then come and talk to us… it’s good to talk. And drink. And eat. Got to love your local pub.
… but we are taking a sneaky extra day off this week and will not be open today, Tuesday 5th January 2016. We will return, rested and relaxed, tomorrow Wednesday 6th at 12 noon. Looking forward to seeing you all then…
Happy New Year!
